Successful people spend 10 hours a week just thinking.

Warren Buffet, an American businessman, investor, and philanthropist, is the second richest person in America. He spends 80% of his time reading and thinking.

His wide-open schedule is against the norm of constant busyness, yet critical thinking time is essential in a VUCA (volatility, uncertainty, complexity, ambiguity) world.

There are many ways to spend time thinking.

  • Run, meditate, cook, garden, journal, walk the dog.
  • Block time on your calendar. Pick your highest energy time and a specific day of the week. Spend two hours with no set agenda. See what comes up. Do this for 4 consecutive weeks. You will develop a habit and results that will show you the value of thinking time.

Expect resistance to doing this. It is normal and to be expected. Start small and build up. Before you know it, you spend 10 hours a week thinking.

“Often he who does too much does too little.” Italian Proverb.
