Neuroscience researcher Alex Korb has studied the brain for over 15 years and is the author of The Upward Spiral: Using Neuroscience to Reverse the Course of Depression, One Small Change and a Time.

In his research he discovered how you can create an upward spiral of happiness in your life: Make that decision.

Brain science shows that making decisions reduces worry and anxiety and increases your problem-solving skills.

“Making decisions includes creating intentions and setting goals – all three are part of the same neural circuitry and engage the prefrontal cortex in a positive way, reducing worry and anxiety. Making decisions also helps overcome striatum activity, which usually pulls you toward negative impulses and routines. Finally, making decisions changes your perception of the world – finding solutions to your problems and calming the limbic system.”
When you make decisions apply the 80% Rule.

This is the ‘good enough’ decision. Making the perfect or ‘right’ decision is stressful while making a good enough decision makes your brain feel in control, which reduces stress.
